UK Carbon Intensity Update for 3rd October 2025

Monitoring carbon intensity is crucial in our collective journey towards a zero-carbon future. At Jaxi, we aim to keep you informed so that you can choose the most sustainable times to use electricity. This helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels like coal during peak demand and supports a greener energy grid.

🌙 Overnight Trends (11:00 PM – 6:30 AM):
The UK grid showed consistently low carbon intensity overnight. Both forecasted and actual values stayed between 67–111 gCO₂/kWh, indicating clean electricity generation, primarily from renewable sources such as wind and hydro.

🌤️ Morning Shift (6:30 AM – 9:00 AM):
As the day began, demand naturally increased, leading to a moderate rise in carbon intensity. It peaked at 111 gCO₂/kWh before dropping back to 95 gCO₂/kWh by 9:00 AM. Choosing to delay energy-intensive activities during this window can help minimize your carbon footprint.

☀️ Daytime Improvement (9:30 AM – 6:00 PM):
Throughout the afternoon, carbon intensity levels remained mostly low, staying below 90 gCO₂/kWh. A few minor spikes occurred but did not breach the lower moderate range. This period was ideal for running appliances and charging electric vehicles using cleaner electricity.

🌇 Evening Sustainability (6:00 PM onwards):
After 6:00 PM, carbon intensity decreased further, maintaining low levels for the rest of the evening. By 10:00 PM, it fell to a remarkable 59 gCO₂/kWh, making it an excellent time to schedule high-energy tasks or usage.

Why Monitoring Carbon Intensity Matters:
Electricity demand fluctuates throughout the day, and when renewable sources can’t meet this demand, backup generators—often powered by fossil fuels—are activated. This raises carbon intensity and increases harmful emissions. By aligning energy usage with low-carbon periods, we can significantly reduce individual and collective environmental impact.

At Jaxi, we’re committed to providing regular carbon intensity updates so you can make smarter energy choices. Small changes in daily routines—like doing laundry or charging electronics during off-peak, low-intensity hours—can lead to significant reductions in carbon emissions over time.

Stay informed, stay green. Let’s work together toward a cleaner and more sustainable UK energy system.
