Carbon Intensity Update – 29th November 2025
At Jaxi, we’re committed to keeping you informed about the UK’s real-time carbon intensity so you can make smarter decisions about your energy use. Understanding when electricity is generated from low-carbon sources helps reduce your environmental impact—and today’s data gives us reasons to be optimistic.
Low Carbon Intensity for Most of the Day
From midnight until 3:00 PM, the UK saw consistently low carbon intensity levels, ranging between 55 and 97 gCO₂/kWh. This signals a strong presence of renewable energy sources during off-peak hours, providing a cleaner, greener electricity supply as people started their day and continued through the early afternoon.
Moderate Peak During Evening Energy Demand
Between 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM, carbon intensity rose slightly, peaking at 106 gCO₂/kWh. This increase corresponds with typical household energy demand during the evening, when many people are returning home and using high-energy appliances such as ovens, washing machines, and heating systems. While this is a moderate jump, it remains within manageable levels—helped by a still-significant contribution from cleaner energy.
Improved Efficiency As Night Falls
After the evening peak, from 6:30 PM onwards, carbon intensity levels started to fall again. By 10:30 PM, figures dropped to as low as 52 gCO₂/kWh, reflecting reduced demand and improved energy efficiency across the grid. This is an encouraging sign as the UK continues to embrace low-carbon solutions.
Why Carbon Intensity Matters
When electricity demand increases and renewable energy sources like wind and solar are insufficient to meet it, fossil fuel-powered generators—often coal or gas—are used to bridge the gap. This results in higher carbon intensity levels. By monitoring these fluctuations, tools like Jaxi help you plan the best times to use energy-intensive appliances, such as dishwashers, tumble dryers, or electric vehicle chargers.
Together for a Greener Future
Today’s carbon intensity update shows progress towards a more sustainable energy landscape in the UK. With increased awareness, better planning, and smarter energy use, we can all contribute to reducing national emissions. Remember, every small decision counts—especially when made at the right time.
Stay tuned for daily updates to make informed energy choices that benefit both your wallet and the planet.
