UK Carbon Intensity Update for 26th September 2025
At Jaxi, we’re committed to keeping you informed about carbon intensity trends so you can make smarter, eco-friendly energy choices. When electricity demand is too high for renewable sources to keep up, fossil-fuel-based generators like coal and gas may be used—leading to higher carbon emissions. That’s why monitoring carbon intensity helps you reduce your footprint by planning when to use your appliances most efficiently.
Here’s a breakdown of the UK’s electricity carbon intensity levels from the evening of 25th September through to 26th September 2025:
🌿 Low Carbon Intensity (23:00 – 04:00)
- From 23:00 to 01:00, carbon emissions were impressively low—ranging between 88 and 97 gCO₂/kWh.
- This green window continued until around 03:30, with a slight increase to 113 gCO₂/kWh by 04:00.
These are the best hours to run energy-hungry appliances like dishwashers, washing machines or EV chargers if you’re aiming to be more climate-conscious.
🚦 Moderate Carbon Intensity (04:00 – 16:00)
- Carbon intensity started climbing in the early morning, with a significant increase between 05:00 and 11:30, peaking at 161 gCO₂/kWh.
- In the afternoon, emissions remained in the moderate range, fluctuating between 114 and 164 gCO₂/kWh.
During these hours, energy use contributes more to carbon emissions—but it’s still better than peak times. Consider shifting usage away from these hours where possible.
🔴 High Carbon Intensity (16:00 – 20:00)
- The highest carbon output occurred during the early evening, with levels ranging from 184 to 194 gCO₂/kWh.
- After 20:00, emissions gradually fell, returning to moderate levels by 21:00.
This period represents heavy reliance on fossil fuels to meet demand. It’s best to avoid running high-energy appliances during this window if you want to minimise your environmental impact.
Why This Matters
Being aware of daily carbon intensity allows you to make informed decisions about your electricity usage. By aligning your power consumption with greener periods, you help reduce the overall demand for fossil fuel generation, cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, and support a cleaner energy future.
Stay tuned to Jaxi for regular carbon intensity updates and smart tools that help you plan your energy usage efficiently. Together, let’s take small steps toward a more sustainable UK.
