Stay informed about the UK’s carbon intensity to make smarter, greener choices about electricity usage. At Jaxi, we provide daily carbon intensity updates so our users can reduce their environmental impact by scheduling energy usage at optimal times. Here’s the UK’s carbon intensity breakdown for 20th November 2025.
UK Carbon Intensity Report – 20th Nov 2025
Understanding when carbon emissions are high helps you use electricity more sustainably. Here’s how today shaped up:
- Midnight to Early Morning (00:00–06:00): A clean start to the day, with carbon intensity staying below 100 gCO2e/kWh. This is the best time to run dishwashers, washing machines, and other energy-heavy appliances.
- Morning Peak (06:00–09:00): Emissions rose sharply starting at 6 AM, peaking at 196 gCO2e/kWh by 8 AM. Avoid high-energy tasks during this window to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Midday Fluctuations (09:00–14:00): Around 10 AM, carbon intensity dropped to a moderate level of around 173 gCO2e/kWh, but increased again past noon. Keep an eye on live metrics to plan usage wisely during these hours.
- Afternoon to Early Evening (14:00–19:00): The highest carbon intensity of the day occurred during these peak hours, reaching 219 gCO2e/kWh. Minimise electricity use where possible.
- Evening Hours (19:00–00:00): Although levels began to decline slightly, they remained above 200 gCO2e/kWh for most of the evening. Energy-saving habits go a long way during this period.
Why Carbon Intensity Matters
When demand for electricity is high, especially during peak hours, renewable sources like wind and solar may not fully meet demand. As a result, fossil-fuel-based generators—such as coal or gas—are brought online, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. By monitoring and adapting to daily carbon intensity trends, we can all contribute to a cleaner energy grid.
Tips to Reduce Your Energy Impact
- Run high-powered appliances like washers and dryers during low-carbon periods (early morning or late night).
- Use smart plugs or timers to schedule appliances outside of peak hours.
- Stay updated with Jaxi’s daily carbon intensity reports to align your habits with low-emission periods.
Every small change helps. By shifting your electricity usage to times when carbon intensity is lower, you help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support a greener, more sustainable energy future.
Note: Carbon intensity is measured in grams of CO2 equivalent per kilowatt-hour (gCO2e/kWh).
