UK Carbon Intensity Update – 14th November 2025

On November 14th, 2025, the UK saw encouraging signs of progress in our transition toward sustainable energy. Carbon intensity levels remained impressively low throughout the early hours, thanks to a strong contribution from renewable sources such as wind and solar power. These developments are crucial for reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and minimising greenhouse gas emissions.

During the early morning period, the forecasted carbon intensity was around 72 gCO2/kWh, with actual levels dipping as low as 60 gCO2/kWh by 00:30. This low carbon output showcases how off-peak times can support cleaner energy consumption when demand is lower, and renewable availability is higher.

As the day progressed and electricity demand increased, so did the carbon intensity. By 10:00 AM, actual carbon intensity levels had risen to 98 gCO2/kWh, continuing to fall within the “low” category. However, a shift occurred shortly after. At around 11:00 AM, intensity peaked at 103 gCO2/kWh, reaching a “moderate” status. These midday fluctuations are a result of rising power demands, which sometimes require backup generation from less eco-friendly sources like coal or natural gas.

The afternoon continued with modest increases, culminating at 106 gCO2/kWh by 17:00. This peak reflects the evening surge in household and business energy use. It’s during these high-demand windows that carbon intensity often rises, as renewable energy sources may struggle to meet the full load, prompting the grid to rely temporarily on fossil fuel-based generators.

Fortunately, by early evening, carbon intensity started to decline once again. From approximately 18:30, levels began dropping steadily, reaching 72 gCO2/kWh by 20:00. The downward trend continued into the late night, offering another window for low-impact energy usage.

At Jaxi, we believe keeping users informed about real-time carbon intensity data empowers them to make eco-conscious decisions about their energy use. Simple actions—like choosing to run energy-intensive appliances during low-carbon periods—can collectively reduce pressure on the grid and support the UK’s journey to net zero emissions.

By aligning electricity usage with periods of lower carbon intensity, every household and business can contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. We encourage all users to monitor daily updates to optimise energy habits and reduce their environmental impact.

Stay tuned for ongoing updates and insights into how you can make smarter energy choices while supporting clean, renewable power across the UK.

Together, we can make a difference—one kilowatt at a time.
