Stay informed with Jaxi’s daily carbon intensity update for 13th September 2025. Monitoring the UK’s carbon intensity helps you make smarter energy choices by identifying the most eco-friendly times to use electricity. By shifting energy consumption to greener periods, we can collectively lower emissions and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels like coal during peak demand hours.
What is Carbon Intensity?
Carbon intensity refers to the amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emitted to generate one kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. Lower values indicate cleaner, more sustainable energy sources such as wind, solar, or hydro. Higher values usually occur when backup fossil fuel generators are used due to high demand and limited renewable supply.
UK Carbon Intensity Breakdown – 13th September 2025
🕛 Midnight to Midday (00:00 – 12:00)
- Carbon Intensity: Ranged between 60 to 56 gCO₂/kWh
- One of the greenest periods of the day – ideal for charging electric vehicles (EVs), using washing machines, or heating water
🕛 Midday to Evening (12:00 – 18:00)
- Carbon Intensity: Increased slightly, reaching up to 79 gCO₂/kWh by late afternoon
- Still a good time to carry out energy-heavy tasks before the evening demand surge
🕕 Evening Peak (18:00 – 21:00)
- Carbon Intensity: Peaked at 138 gCO₂/kWh around 18:00
- This moderate level suggests higher fossil fuel usage – try to minimise non-essential appliance use during this time
🕙 Late Night (21:00 – 23:00)
- Carbon Intensity: Dropped back to 83–99 gCO₂/kWh by 23:00
- A good time to schedule dishwashers, dryers or other delayed-start appliances
Why This Matters
When renewable sources can’t meet demand, energy providers rely on fossil fuels, which significantly increase carbon emissions. By aligning your energy usage with low-carbon periods, you actively contribute to reducing the UK’s carbon footprint and supporting a transition to cleaner energy.
At Jaxi, we’re committed to helping homeowners plan smart appliance usage through real-time carbon intensity data. Stay tuned to our daily updates and make every kilowatt count toward a greener, more sustainable future.
Make informed choices. Save energy. Lower emissions. 🌿
